Everything Is Cray Right Now?
So on a serious note, Mercury is in Retrograde once again! DA-DUM! If you’re reading this in in the middle of a retrograde, you’re probably being bombarded with “what to watch out for” posts all over social media.
Well, I’m here to say…forget all that. Let’s make it work for you, shall we? This is a quick survival guide to get you through the next few weeks, give or take the sneaky shadow phase.
- WHAT THE F IS MERCURY RETROGRADE?
First things first. If you’re new to this whole phenomenon, Mercury Retrograde is simply when Mercury’s orbit of the Sun seems to sloooowww down. During this time, Mercury appears to move “backwards”, even though this is just an optical illusion.
- HOW DOES IT AFFECT US?
Mercury tends to affect areas that govern communication, technology and travel. It can also affect our mental processing. Laptop breaks down. Miscommunication with your BFF. Blog post images won’t load (true story, took me an hour to get a simple image to work)! Can’t make decisions. That sneaky ex from your past pops up in your DMs. You’ll also find that unresolved “issues” from the past resurface to be dealt with. Anything that’s been ignored or neglected is going to make itself known. Think of it as a period of ummm ahhhh….corrections.
Ok, so what can you do to not just SURVIVE but THRIVE during this time?
- 1. TAKE A CHILL PILL
No seriously. Don’t freak out. Sometimes, we just manifest strange things happening to us because we have such a fear of the retro that we EXPECT it to happen. And so naturally, it does. Law of Attraction 101. The retrograde doesn’t affect everyone to the same degree. Some astrological signs may be affected worse than others – and quite frankly, you might not be affected at all.
- 2. SELF CARE IS YOUR BFF
If you are feeling the effects of the retro, then self care is your BFF. Well, self care is your BFF all day everyday but particularly during this time. Meditate, get good sleep, spend time doing things that calm your nervous system. Ground your energy by spending time in nature. Clear your energy energy regularly (here’s a quick guide). If you’re feeling frazzled, then allow a nurturing routine to be your safe space.
- 3. PAY ATTENTION AND FIND GRATITUDE
Old issues will resurface. Pay attention to areas of your life that are being highlighted. You may not feel like it at the time, but try to find gratitude in the situation. Whatever is coming up at this time is asking to be resolved so you can move forward and create something new. It’s time to reflect, revisit and deal with your “stuff”. Take care of business like a boss. You can make this easier on yourself by “doing the work” throughout the year so you can have a somewhat milder experience during the retro period.
- 4. EXPECT A SLOWER PACE
Ok so things may get delayed. Be prepared for it. Allow extra time for anything you have going on right now. Take for example this blog post. Unexpected tech issues meant I could only finish it several days late! Perhaps I should have taken my advice and started earlier 😂
- 5. BE KIND AND THOUGHTFUL IN YOUR RESPONSES
Mercury retro is well known for causing miscommunication. So if you should encounter friction between yourself and someone else…think about your response. Pause for a minute and ask yourself if what you’re about to say is the appropriate thing to say in the moment. Remember, kindness is free (and you can empty that excess rage by screaming into a pillow or going hard at the gym). It’ll also make your retro a whoooollle lot easier!
